Sligo sits on the Atlantic coast with many beaches nearby - and the water is a lot warmer than the Pacific! It boasts a magnificent variety of mountain, lake, wood and coastline. It's a great place to visit if you are interested in walking, sight-seeing, hill-walking, Irish-music, surfing.

Glencar Waterfall
The town is rich in traditional music and culture. Around Sligo are many beautiful lakes, especially Lough Gill and Glencar.

Eagles Flying, Ballymote
Within a 10 minute drive you can hill walk, see eagles up close, explore underground caves, walk around a few castles or play golf with the Atlantic ocean below.

WB Yeats Grave at Drumcliffe
Overlooking the town is the magnificent table-top mountain of Benbulben; where beneath its shadow is the grave of WB Yeats at Drumcliffe churchyard.

Parkes Castle on Lough Gill
This is WB Yeats' "Land of Hearts Desire", where he and his brother Jack, found inspiration.

Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark at Enniskillen
You can easily visit Northern Ireland too - Enniskillen is a lovely town built around a lake and river system. Belfast is an easy day trip.

Warriors Run

Each year runners from all over Ireland (and various parts of the world) converge on Strandhill to follow in the footsteps of her ancient warriors.

Warrior starts the descent

The 15k run takes competitors from the Cannon Gun at the beachfront in Strandhill to the summit of Knocknarea (1,070ft), around Queen Maeves Cairn and back to the beachfront again.
